This exhibition is an inquiry into how we know one another. It explores mysterious social connections, unknown links, and forgotten shared associations among individuals. Using the question “Didn’t we meet at Marienbad last year?” of the 1961 film by Alain Resnais as a point of departure, Last Year at Marienbad redux explores the elliptical conversations, shifting states of recollections and situations of confusion in ongoing attempts to determine what is common ground, what is real. Fact and fiction are indecipherable in vast interconnected social networks, nameless avatars, and movement around the world. The exhibition seeks to question how false reality becomes absorbed into biography.
